The Gewehr 98, introduced in 1898, became a cornerstone of German military might and one of the most influential bolt-action rifles in history. Derived from earlier Mauser designs, it quickly replaced the less effective Gewehr 1888, solidifying the Mauser system as a global standard. The Gewehr 98 saw its first combat during the Boxer Rebellion and became Germany's primary service rifle during World War I, with millions produced for the war effort. Its adoption of the 7.92×57mm Mauser "S Patrone" cartridge marked a significant technological advancement, and the rifle's precision and reliability cemented its legacy as a foundational military firearm worldwide.
