In 1968, Colt chose to commemorate the first World War by producing a commemorative Model 1911 in remembrance of the four most noted battles of World War I. Total standard production for each Model was 7,400 guns. These were all Pre-Series 70 Models. The “US victory at Chateau Thierry contributed decisively to the stemming of the German tide.” The left side of the slide has a roll engraved battle scene and the right side has the World War I banner with the dates “1917-1967″, the 50th anniversary of our entering the war.
