For sale is a French Darne Halifax no. 4 Double Barrel Sliding Breech shotgun in 12ga. Serial number- 23738. 2 1/2" chambers. 18.2 choke/bore stamps. In 1881, a gunsmith from Saint Etienne, Régis Darne, patented a new basically different type of shotgun. In 1897, appeared the first famous sliding breech system that we know today. Improved years after years, it was a real commercial success and Darne shotguns won a lot of golden awards in gun shows and shooting competitions. It was during both World Wars that Darne created a low-end R called the Halifax — the design licensed out to different manufacturers. The Halifax has been out of production for decades. Very few Halifax shotguns made it into the U.S., with the exception of a few GIs bringing them back from Europe.
