For sale is a Providence Tool Company Peabody Model 1862 breach loading carbine in .50 Cal Rim. Serial number- NONE. This carbine is in good condition for a rifle manufactured during the Civil War. This Peabody carbine is a breechloading, single shot, .50 caliber rimfire carbine made by the Providence Tool Company of Providence, Rhode Island. One of an estimated quantity of 112,000 carbines and rifles produced by the company, this carbine utilized the triggerguard that acts as a breech lever, lowing the breechblock for top loading of the round.

Carbine has a back action style lock and a large side hammer. The carbine was developed during the Civil War, but the great majority of these carbines never saw action in the war and were later sold under contract to foreign countries. This Peabody carbine is in very good, complete condition and features a 20" round barrel secured to a black walnut stock.

Please see the photos to assess the condition of the rifle for yourself. Note there is pitting/rust on the barrel and receiver. The bore has some pitting but the rifling is still clear.
