<br />The AR-180 was designed by the same minds that created the M16/AR-15 like Eugene Stoner. It was manufactured using stamped steel and welds, which made it cheap to manufacture and was a popular manufacturing method in the East/ComBloc Europe and Asia vs Western style of forging. The AR-18/180 was meant to compete with the M16 for military contracts. It failed to land any Government contracts, but its design has inspired many modern military small arms that use the short-stroke piston system like the HK G36, British SA80, and the Howa Type 89. The bolt carrier group of the AR-180 was used for the ACR design. This was a revolutionary rifle for its time, and since it failed to land any contracts other than some minor ones in the UK and Japan, few AR-180s were made and are very desirable to collectors today.
