CLEAN Springfield M1D Garand Sniper – .30-06 – M1 US Rifle – MFG 1943 – C

This is a no reserve penny auction for a Springfield M1 Garand semi automatic rifle in .30-06 SPRG. Serial number – 2156330. This M1 Garand is in excellent condition with a pristine bore. It includes a leather MRT cheekpiece and sling, removable flash hider, cleaning kit found in the butt-stock, and serialized M84 riflescope. After running a serial number lookup, we've determined the receiver was manufactured in 1943. The barrel was manufactured in 1951 as seen in the photos. Double "Circle P" proofs are seen on the stock wrist, "S.A.G.A.W." is stamped on the left side of the stock, and the "D7312555" drawing number is stamped on the barrel indicating it is a genuine M1D sniper barrel. Little discussion can be had on the subject of American infantrymen in World War Two without the mention of the highly-acclaimed M1 Garand rifle. As the standard infantry rifle of the Second World War GI, the Garand saw combat throughout theaters in Europe with the United States Army and especially in the Pacific with the United States Marine Corps. The M1 Garand served as the standard-issue rifle of the US military during WWII and the Korean War.

Unlike standard M1 Garands, genuine M1D sniper variants such as this are remarkably rare, having been produced in far smaller numbers during the post-WWII and Korean War eras. Because the M1D required a specialized barrel and barrel block mount to accept optics without interfering with en-bloc clip loading, relatively few were built or converted compared to the millions of standard service rifles. Finding an authentic example with a correct WWII-era receiver, proper drawing-numbered M1D barrel, and period optics intact makes this an extraordinarily scarce piece of military history that seldom becomes available on the open market.
