This authentic Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver in .31 caliber represents one of Colt’s best-selling and most iconic personal defense firearms of the 19th century. Evolving from Colt's "Baby Dragoon" model, it features the classic Colt-style frame with brass grip straps, a case-hardened steel frame, and an octagonal barrel. Known for its compact size and portability, it was ideal for civilian use and popular among Civil War officers as a personal sidearm. With a 5-shot cylinder and no loading lever (a variant often nicknamed the "Wells Fargo" model), this revolver is a collector’s favorite. The small grip and simple sights give it an authentic feel and a challenge for shooting enthusiasts. The design continued to evolve, influencing later models like the .36 caliber Pocket Navy and Pocket Police revolvers. This particular model's historical appeal is amplified by stories of prominent owners like explorer Richard Francis Burton and Old West figures, making it a fascinating addition to any collection of historical firearms.
