The DWM Erfurt German Military Erfurst Police Rework 1920 Lugers were originally produced by Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) and the Erfurt arsenal during World War I, later reworked in the early 1920s for military and police use by the Weimar Republic. Following the Treaty of Versailles, which restricted Germany's military capabilities, many existing pistols were reissued with modifications to comply with the treaty, including resizing to smaller calibers such as .30 Luger. These reworks typically feature a "1920" date stamp and additional inspection or reproof markings. While originally chambered in 9mm, some were altered to smaller calibers, and the pistols were issued to various military and law enforcement units during the interwar period. These reworked Lugers are significant for collectors due to their historical context and unique features, as well as the changes made during their rework process under postwar restrictions.
