German Danzig Gewehr 88/05 – 8mm Mauser – Gew 88 – MFG 1890 – Unit Marked

This is a no reserve penny auction for an Imperial German Spandau Gewehr 1888/05 bolt-action rifle in 8mm Mauser. Serial number- 4931S. This rifle is in great condition, has a good bore and was manufactured in 1890. The barrel band on this rifle is marked Bavarian Infantry Regiment 13, 8th Company, 84th Rifle. The stock appears to be arsenal refinished, likely in Turkey.

This Gewehr 88/05, produced at the Danzig Imperial Arsenal, is a striking example of Germany’s transitional rifle design. Featuring the 88/05 upgrades—including an open receiver, stripper clip guide, and "S" marking for 7.92x57mm Spitzer—it shows signs of later service with Turkish military proofs.
