Mauser P.08 Luger – 9mm – BLACK WIDOW – byf 1941 – MATCHING – Holster – C
This is a no-reserve penny auction for a Mauser P08 Luger BYF 41 semi-automatic pistol in 9mm. Serial number – 7156. This pistol is in EXCELLENT condition with a fantastic bore! There doesn't appear to be an import mark, indicating it was most likely a vet bring-back. The bore is very good for the age of this pistol, with sharp, distinct lands all the way down. Mfg. 1941. Despite having walnut handle slabs, this is a BLACK WIDOW P08 that comes with a Black Widow magazine, disassembly tool, and a repro holster. Many "Black Widow" P08s were produced with walnut handles. All serial numbers appear to be matching! The magazines are time period correct, with the Black Widow mag having an "FXO" and eagle over 37 Waffenamt, stamps. The Top of the toggle is marked with the Mauser code "byf", and the top of the chamber marked with the date code "41". Eagle/655 proofs and eagle military acceptance mark are on the right side, with "P.08" marked on left side frame. Mauser was the primary producer of the Luger for the German military, but they were also ramping up production for its successor, the Walther-designed P.38. By late 1942, Mauser ceased Luger production entirely to focus on the P.38 and the K98k rifle. Because "byf" marked Lugers were only produced for about two years (1941–1942), they are particularly prized by historians and collectors.
Captured Lugers were much prized by Allied soldiers during both of the world wars as war trophies and many were sent home to the United States.
