The Remington Model 81 Woodsmaster is a benchmark semi-automatic rifle introduced by Remington in 1936 as an evolution of John M. Browning’s earlier Model 8. Though mechanically similar to the Model 8 and still using a long-recoil action, the Woodsmaster had revised stock contours, with a slightly thicker forearm and a more modernized buttstock shape compared to the Model 8. These cosmetic and ergonomic updates were meant to refresh the rifle’s appearance and handling. Remington also redesigned the barrel jacket for a sleeker appearance and improved handling. It quickly became popular for hunting medium-to-large game and even some law enforcement agencies adopted special versions with extended magazines.
Please note that in the final picture there seems to be a small square cut in the stock where it meets the top tang.
