Remington Rand M1911 A1 US Army – .45 ACP – WWII – 1945 – US Property 1911
This is a no reserve penny auction for a Remington Rand M1911A1 semi-automatic pistol in .45 ACP. Serial number – 2389254. This pistol is in good condition and comes with a (4) WWII 7-round magazines – Two are stamped with a "G" on the toe, one is stamped "R" and the other is Stamped "S". The right side of the frame is Marked UNITED STATES PROPERTY and M 1911 A1 U.S. ARMY. The left side of the slide is marked REMINGTON RAND INC. SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S. A. The lug of the barrel, left side appears to be stamped P – and the right side is stamped F. Other Stamps visible include a what appears to be a P on top of the slide, a 3 and a 5 on each side of the trigger guard, and the FJA inspection stamp on the left side of the frame, behind the trigger, in front of the grip panel – Its the inspector mark for Colonel Frank J. Atwood. He was the Army Inspector of Ordnance at the Rochester Ordnance District from June 15, 1942, to March 31, 1946, and inspected the total production of M1911A1 pistols manufactured by both Remington Rand and Ithaca.
The Remington Rand M1911A1 is a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol that was produced by Remington Rand from 1942 to 1945 for the United States Armed Forces during World War II. Remington Rand manufactured more M1911A1 pistols than any other company during the war, producing a total of 877,751. The M1911A1 was based on John Browning's M1911 design, but with some modifications, including a shorter trigger, wider front sight, and longer grip safety spur.
