After World War II, Smith & Wesson resumed production of the M&P series, later renamed the Model 10 in the late 1950s as part of a new numeric designation system. With changes such as the introduction of a cam-actuated hammer block safety and a switch to a straight bull barrel in the 1960s, the Model 10 evolved while maintaining its reliability. Over 6 million units have been produced, making it one of the most popular and enduring revolvers of the 20th century, renowned for its durability and capacity to handle modern .38 Special rounds, including +P+ loads.
