Springfield M1903 .30-06 – Mfg 1911 – Type S – Pre-WW1 RARE NRA STAMP! 1903
This is a no reserve penny auction for a Springfield M1903 bolt action rifle in .30-06. Serial number- 478489. This 1903 is in great condition. This rifle is stamped with "NRA" on the front tang of the trigger guard. This marking indicates that this rifle was one of the Model 1903 rifles sold to NRA members between 1915 and early 1917 directly by the then Army's D.C.M. when sales were later ended due to the start of WW1. The stock is stamped with the Ordnance "J.F.C." final inspection mark on the left wrist and the encircled, script "P" proof mark behind the trigger guard. Very few rifles were marked and sold to civilians. When members first purchased these rifles they were not stamped with "NRA". Instead, buyers signed an agreement to not resell them to a third party however some buyers resold them anyways. The NRA stamp was then used when it was revealed that some of these buyers had sold their rifles to third parties in violation of the agreement they signed when they purchased the rifle. Supposedly, some rifles that were already sold were tracked down and thus-stamped! These M1903's were special rifles in the civilian market over 100 years ago and it is still the case today. Here is a rare chance to get your hands on one of the most special M1903's ever produced!
