The 2011 platform originated in the early 1990s when STI International created a modular double-stack frame for the classic M1911 design, offering significantly higher capacity for competition shooters. Over the following decades, these handguns dominated competitive shooting sports like USPSA and IPSC due to their match-grade triggers and low recoil. In 2020, STI rebranded to Staccato and shifted focus toward duty, defense, and law enforcement, where the platform has since been widely adopted by hundreds of police agencies and elite tactical units.
