Steyr Mannlicher M1895 Carbine – 8x50mm – Budapest M95 – MFG 1917 – RARE
This is a no reserve penny auction for a Steyr M95 bolt-action carbine in 8x50mm. Serial number- 1688A. This rifle is in great condition considering the carbine was manufactured in Vienna in 1917. The WA Crown 17 stamp located on the barrel indicated the date. In 1930 the Austrians began rechambering older M95s. We know this rifle was not rechambered because when older rifles were rechambered for 8×56 had a large "S" stamped on the receiver, this rifle is not stamped with an "S". Most M95s were rechambered so finding one without the S is rare and very desirable. Be sure to see all the photos to see the exact condition. Note there is some rust but much of the finish has aged into a patina. The bore also looks fantastic for an old rifle.
It was manufactured in Budapest but the exact date is hard to nail down. Just be sure to see all the photos for the exact condition. The Steyr M1895 rifle, also known as Steyr-Mannlicher M95 straight-pull rifle, was developed by famous Austrian arms designer Ferdinand Ritter Von Mannlicher. Based on his previous M1890 design, this rifle was manufactured in Austro-Hungarian Empire at state arms factories in Steyr (Austria) and Budapest (Hungary). More than 3 million M95 rifles were produced between 1895 and 1918.
