Winchester Model 1873 Kings Improvement – .38 WCF – MFG 1888

This is a no reserve penny auction for a Winchester Model 1873 lever-action rifle in .38 WCF. Serial number – 281154B. After running a serial number lookup, we believe this rifle was manufactured in 1888. This rifle has beautiful patinaed wood and functions as it should, with a crisp, solid action. Throughout the lifetime of this 136-year-old rifle it has seen a couple changes in its layout, for example, the barrel has been changed out (the original barrel would have been octagonal.) We are uncertain what year the swap took place, but you can see tool marks on the barrel where they tightened it. The magazine end-cap has also been replaced with a spent bullet casing. Included with this rifle, is a letter dated 1976, from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, detailing the age and features of the rifle. Please refer to the photos for exact condition, as this rifle is in good condition for its age! Everything feels right, and everything appears to be functioning! Even the rifling in the bore appears to still be intact and distinct! These 1873s are incredibly collectible especially due to their legendary status as the rifle of choice for outlaws, lawman, and homesteaders in the Wild West. The Model 1873 is one of the most famous rifles in American History. It is often coined "The Gun That Won The West" and served pioneers, Native warriors, cattle rustlers, outlaws, and lawmen during the Old West. It often features in Western Movies alongside the Colt Single Action Army as both guns could be chambered with the same round. Please Note: the lever lock is worn, the front sight appears to be slightly bent and the dust cover is missing.
