Winchester Model 1892 – .44 WCF – MFG 1901 – English Stock – Saddle Ring
This is a no reserve penny auction for a Winchester Model 1892 lever-action rifle in .44 WCF. Serial number – 187835. Serial Record Look-up shows this Rifle was Manufactured in 1901! This rifle features a 20" barrel, straight English stock, and a Saddle Ring!
The .44-40 was the primary round for the famous Winchester 1873 and was so popular that revolvers began getting manufactured for .44-40! If the West was Won by the Winchester rifles, then the .44-40 WCF was the round that "Won the West".
Of all the rifles produced in an era often called "the Winning of the West" the John Browning-designed Winchester, Model 1892 stands out as an engineering masterpiece. Light, fast, ultra-quick to the point, natural … essentially perfect. Of all the pistol caliber rifles of the day, none have become more viable in modern Cowboy Action shooting than the '92. It's a good year to get your hands on some history!
Everything appears to function without issue and it features a 20-inch barrel with chambering that is very sought after in .44 Winchester Centerfire also known as .44-40 Winchester. The finish has patinaed over the last 124 Years. Note there is significant rust/pitting on the outer metal parts. We oiled the barrel, receiver, action, and other metal parts to slow any further rust. This would make a good project for someone looking for an easier de-rusting restoration. Despite its outward appearance, the bore is in amazing condition! As with anything this old, a proper inspection should be completed by a professional gunsmith prior to attempting to fire this rifle. Note: the left front of the forend is cracked – Just in front of the forend, between the barrel and the magazine tube is what appears to be a slot for a screw; we are unsure of any modifications this rifle has undergone. This rifle has finish wear consistent with age and use. Please see the photos to assess the condition of the rifle for yourself.
