Colt Commemorative WWI “Chateau Thierry” Model 1911

Colt Commemorative WWI “Chateau Thierry” Model 1911

In 1968, Colt chose to commemorate the first World War by producing a commemorative Model 1911 in remembrance of the four most noted battles of World War I. Total standard production for each Model was 7,400 guns. These were all Pre-Series 70 Models. For accuracy, they were made with flat mainspring housing, long triggers, checkered slide stop and safety, and checkered wide spur hammers, and Type II beveled proper rear sight. The Battle of Chateau Thierry features the high polish blue finish with the diamond checkered walnut grips and the commemorative medallion and tag. The “US victory at Chateau Thierry contributed decisively to the stemming of the German tide.” The left side of the slide has a roll engraved battle scene and the right side has the World War I banner with the dates “1917-1967″, the 50th anniversary of our entering the war.
