When the 1991 was first introduced in 1991, Colt recognized that the market was already awash in custom 1911 pistols. The Colt Model 1991 was therefore conceived to remain true to its roots and reasonably faithful to the original design. A hybrid of the M1911A1 military model redesigned to use the slide of the Mk. IV Model 80; these models aimed at providing a more "mil-spec" pistol to compete with imported pistols from manufacturers such as Springfield Armory and Norinco. A modern variant of the legendary Colt 1911, the 1991A1 is a very high-quality, economical and utilitarian handgun that shows off it's military roots and would be a great addition to any collection.
