The rifle M1891, colloquially known in the West as a Mosin–Nagant and in Russia as Mosin's rifle, is a five-shot, bolt-action, internal magazine-fed, military rifle developed from 1882 to 1891 and used by the armed forces of the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union, and various other nations. The Mosin PU was a sniper variant of the Model 91/30 Mosin-Nagant rifle and was famously used during World War II by Red Army snipers like Vasily Zaitsev. The movie Enemy At The Gates portrays Zaitsev and other Red Army snipers fighting the Germans during the Battle of Stalingrad.
