For sale is a Colt .38 Special Kit 1911 / Clark Custom Model 61-S in .38 Special Mid-Range. Serial number- 00208-H. This pistol is in great condition and comes with a right-handed competition-style grip, an Aimpoint Comp Red Dot Sight, a grip frame mount for an optic, extra rear sight, a Husky hard case, and (5) 5-round .38 Special wadcutter magazines.

This is a possible Unicorn Gun. Not only is this a Gil Hebard Kit gun but was purchased by Clark Custom and modified into a Model 61-S long slide. We know this is a Hebard Gun as Colt .38 Special Kit pistols serial#'s with an "H" suffix stood for "Hebard". The .38 Special Kit's were serial#'d 00100-H to 00703-H.

Gil Hebard was a well know pistol shooter in Illinois who successfully ran a firearms company that specialized in Colt and S&W pistols. These "kit" pistols were introduced in 1964 and produced through 1970 in two calibers .38 Special and .45 ACP. The concept of the "Kit" gun was for Colt to be able to produce a Target Grade pistol with all the parts and components fully finished but "unassembled" and without sights, thus saving the costs of final assembly and test, which could be passed on through the actual cost of the pistol to the customer. Approximately 450 total of the ".38 Special Kit" guns were produced.

Clark Custom purchased many Colt Kit Guns, (Most were not Gil Hebard serials) cut the slide, lengthened it (The Weld is almost invisible), undercut the front Patridge sight, added an aggressive texture to the front strap, and equipped a BO-MAR adjustable rear sight. It also features a trigger has a over travel adjustment screw installed. They renamed their creation the Model 61-S. This pistol was dated by Clark Custom in 1964. The Clark Custom stamp and date is located under the slide.

Please see the photos to determine the condition of this pistol for yourself. The frame was drilled/tapped to add an optics mount and an Aimpoint Comp Red Dot Sight. We do not know if the Aimpoint is functional as it is missing a battery and we do not have the right one to test functionality.
