Smith & Wesson Model 1 – 2nd Issue –

$1,199.99

This little Smith & Wesson Model 1 is the first revolver manufactured by Smith and Wesson! Production of the 2nd issue spanned from 1860-1868. The model 1 was the first successful firearm to use rimfire cartridges rather than packing black powder and a musket ball down the muzzle. It is a single-action, tip-up revolver holding seven .22 short stack black powder cartridges. With a serial number, 36849 makes this particular revolver an early 2nd issue probably manufactured in 1860. Popular with Civil War soldiers the Model 1 was purchased privately by Union troops for personal protection. This revolver is in very good condition considering it a 160-year-old gun. There is some pitting that has accumulated on the barrel near the cylinder. The rosewood grips with piano finish are in great condition with some wear and a minor crack on the right side. The extractor rod is missing and the bore has a fair amount of pitting but the rifling is still present and easily visible. The lock-up and timing are excellent! There is no movement in the cylinder and it lines up with the barrel perfectly when cocked. The trigger and hammer mechanisms still function beyond expectations. This revolver is the firearm that made Smith and Wesson a household name and is in beautiful condition. It would make an excellent addition to any collection.
