Smith & Wesson Victory – .38 S&W – U.S. Property Lend Lease
Up for grabs is a Smith & Wesson Victory Revolver in .38 S&W . Serial number- V66564. The importer was Vega and they were located in Sacramento, CA. A large number of .38 Victory and pre-Victory guns were imported from Australia. Those guns are marked on the left frame VEGA SAC CA. The Victory model was so named for the "V" prefix which was placed before the serial number and represented "Victory" against the Axis powers in World War II. The Victory Revolver was produced during World War II, it is a variation of the Military & Police Model. The SN matches on the cylinder as well as the butt and under the barrel. The grips are the only non-matching SN. "V" series from V-1 to around V-769,000. All were made between 1940 to 1945. This revolver was used by the United States military services during World War Two and after, then sent to the British and Commonwealth country of Australia and has proof and property marks from there. Guns made after we got into the war (early 1942 and later) are marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" on the left side of the top strap as this revolver is marked. Some included markings are D^D = Australian Dept of Defense, FTR = Factory Through Repair (Factory Rebuild), MA54 = Lithgow (Australia) Factory 1954(MA was their 'factory code')
