Colt DA 45 M1917 US Property w/ Holster! – .45 ACP
For sale is a Colt DA 45 Model of 1917 revolver in .45 ACP. Serial number-158535. This revolver is in amazing condition and comes with a USGI Holster with a 1917 Date. This M1917 also still has its lanyard ring.
Military 1917s are in the #1 thru # 169959 (the estimated last military #), this revolver has a 9052 military number. From a Colt SN lookup, we believe this revolver was Mfg. in 1918. This M1917 is marked JMG”, (Gov’t inspector Colonel John M. Gilbert) as seen on this revolver on the left side frame up near the hammer from about serial number 29,700 to about 64,000 the mark. The underside of the barrel is marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” followed by a single “H” stamp. The rear cylinder face is stamped with a single “H”. It does not have a Colt verified proof mark indicating that it was not refurbished by Colt before WWII.
The Colt M1917 served the US military for much of the 20th century including WWI, WWII, Korea, and even Vietnam! During WWI the revolver was issued due to the shortage of M1911s. It later was reissued to “specialty troops” such as tankers during the 2nd World War. During the Vietnam war “Tunnel Rats” used M1917s in their search and destroy missions into cramped dark tunnels.
