For sale is a Lithgow Enfield SMLE Mk III Sporter. Serial number- A66579. This rifle is in good condition but it has been sporterized. Serial numbers on the barrel, bolt, and receiver all match. The Lithgow Small Arms Factory, in Lithgow, Australia, manufactured the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) Mk III from 1912 to 1953. It was common for surplus military rifles to be sold at very affordable and "sporterized" meaning it was modified for hunting purposes. Usually, the stock would be replaced with lighter stock, drilled/tapped for a scope, and/or have the iron sights replaced with more accurate sporting sights.
