For sale is an unknown MFG Mauser K98 bolt-action rifle in 8mm Mauser. Serial number- GG89. This K98 is in great condition. This rifle has a large Nazi Reichsadler emblem on the receiver with a "cn" stamp above it. Now, the "cn" stamp is where the manufacturer stamp would be on a known K98. The cn factory code is not known to historians but is argued amongst K98 owners to be one of FN's codes. The date reads 1938, however, the Germans began using laminated stocks later in the war which doesn't line up with this rifles date code. There is no SN on the receiver ring also. The metal is period correct but as you can see in the photos it looks like there is bluing missing around the Reichsadler and the factory code. Could be one of the special "SS" rifles made for Hitler's Elite Secret Police? There is mention of these in the code books, but no codes. There are many inconsistencies with this rifle and no comparable rifle on the market. We are unable to confirm if it is a genuine K98. Other speculations are it could be a standard K98 Mauser That has been gussied up for presentation to a departing service member ( American ) leaving post-war Germany. Maybe the rifle was given a new stock, the Eagle was added and the factory code was changed to ( look at the metal around "cn " ) to reflect the initials of the receiving service member. who was probably a officer.
