For sale is a Winchester 1886 – commemorative edition Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation lever action rifle in .45-70 GOVT. Serial number- 01262. This RMEF Winchester is truly stunning, but unfortunately THE STOCK IS CRACKED in several locations. This gun is number 262 of 550 RMEF Banquet models that were made in 2001. It Features high polished blue metal with gold embellishments, jeweled carrier, lever, and hammer, a 26" octagonal barrel, as well as high grade walnut furniture. The Winchester Model 1886 was a lever-action repeating rifle designed by John Browning to handle some of the more powerful cartridges of the period. Despite being originally designed for use with black powder, the action was strong enough to make the jump to smokeless powder with only minor modifications and was subsequently chambered in the smokeless .33 WCF cartridge beginning in 1903.
