Up for grabs is a Springfield Model 1898 Krag bolt-action rifle in .30-40 Krag. Serial number – 172581. Mfg Dated 1899. This rifle is in excellent condition considering its age. The rifle has a 30-inch barrel and the bore has some light pitting and is great condition considering its age and the corrosive ammo used in the early 20th century. The Krag Model 1898 Rifle was the first smokeless powder repeating firearm adopted by the United States. Because U.S. smokeless powder manufacture was lagging, sufficient quantities of these arms were not available to national forces as war broke out with Spain.
